Trainee Cost Manager
“I work with Ridge at our head office in Oxford as a Cost Manager within Team 100.
My day is usually focussed around estimating, working on all sizes of projects across many industries including motorsport, residential, industrial and educational facilities. I work alongside the other disciplines involved within a project to accurately estimate and price a job from its initial conception through to completion, looking into variations and value engineering along the way.
I often find myself out on site with many of the projects I work on, dealing with queries from the client and also the Architects. I find it very rewarding to work so closely with other disciplines, and it has definitely had a positive effect on my own work.
Personally, I moved from a business background into cost management work as I get a massive amount of motivation from looking back on a project and seeing how far it has come. I feel that working within the built environment gives great pleasure, especially when you stand back and look at the finished article knowing you had a positive impact and it will be there for many years to come.
I had only recently graduated from my first degree in Business Management when I moved to Ridge and was in the first year of my BSc in Quantity Surveying. Ridge really helped me to progress with this and the support of my peers and management has been incredible. Plus, why wouldn’t I thrive when working on motorsport projects?”
